Do we think with Carl, Sophia, Ben and Billy there will be enough points to do a Children of the Corn kind of thing?
What other squad ideas do folks have?

I think you're going to need more kids. Maybe Julia and Chris (?) as well?
I had fun running a 200 point game (which is where I think the game hits it's sweet spot) with:
Governor + .44 Magnum Martinez + M16 + ammo reload Gabe
vs.
Tyreese + claw hammer + Riot Gear + Riot helmet Michonne + katanna + Riot Gear + Riot helmet + grenade
Michonne and Tyreese were basically unstoppable walker-killing machines.

I'm going to try running a 150pts game using Rick / Andrea / Amy . As a what if scenario , i.e what if Rick was never in the coma and met the girls before Dale .

I love the idea of just running a game where Rick never woke up. Seeing how the group could work without Rick in charge, and Shane instead.

Walker, that is a idea I have to try out too with a "what if" scenario I can see Michonne with a katana and a little defencive equipment proving very popular. She is a tank in melee and able to kill multiple opponents a turn and I think she is actually to cheap right now! I have increased her points value by another 10 by my games and she is still worth it!

I think Michonne's value will ultimately depend on what the final range attack rules are. As is, no melee-centric character is worth paying premium points for at this point. Michonne is actually more of a glass cannon as she is not very defensive for her points. Except against armor-piercing, a white die is more consistent than 2 orange dice. There is no way Michonne should ever cost more than Rick if comparing stats and abilities. A blue range die is just brutal and worth way more than a blue melee (as is the case in most minis games).

What do you guys think of the types of character? Seems from my experience that the Bruiser type have a little advantage. (the Tyreese-Michonne combo is god damn powerful!)

Christian, while ranged attacks are useful they put you at a higher risk since they usually caused mayhem and melee will be able to walk around causing less noise. If Michonne gets swamped in combat she will usually kill 2 or 3 models since she can land a potential 9 hits per attack and nothing is going to defence against that, lol. I had her with a katanaa and riot armour running up the board while enemies shot at her, she hacked her way through everything that came at her and by the time she was close enough to deal with the enemies she had only taken a single wound (from shooting) and the those shooting at her were now having to deal with zombies. She took out 2 of the opposing team in 1 turn too. If given defensive gear she becomes much more than a glass cannon and can just run around the table without really worrying to much, hence her points increase for my games While the shooting rules may change, the mayhem shooting causes is a real factor since the threat constantly climbs and you get swamped more and more by zombies. When you are having to deal with those, Michoone just walks up and lops off your head hahaha. Malaka, I used Michonne and Tyreese together in 1 game and they are immensely powerful as a team, even if you only have them as your characters. Tyreese is very hard to put down, ever moreso with defencive gear and they can both dish out tonnes of damage on opponents that get to close, heheheh.

I'm just not finding that the case with the current rules. Mayhem is only 8 inches so my Gov + Martinez + Gabe group can literally gun Michonne down before she even gets close to being a threat. M16 with multi-shot on Martinez is just brutal. Gabe and the Governor can handle any stray walker that happens to be close enough. Threat is a non-issue until it gets into Medium (and even then, walkers are only added in 3 event cards, and in very few numbers). This means it is rare for new Walkers to show up while Martinez is pumping round after round into Michonne. If the Governor gets involved with his magnum, Michonne lasts 2 turns, maybe 3 if dice go bad. Taking out Tyreese is tougher but if you can put Michonne down, you have a good chance at cleaning up Tyreese or ignoring him and going for loot counters.
I've run Michonne + Tyreese and it is fun and brutal but I had to modify the cover rules to make it an even fight. Right now, the increases in threat and the mayhem rules when applied to ranged combat is not a serious factor in curbing the power of ranged attacks. We haven't even seen Sniper Andrea. And the Browning Safari Rifle + Rick might be too much at 200+ point games since Rick will never run out of ammo (2 blue dice, 3?? if you aim) and deal a ton of damage from 40" away. He will have an average of 6.5 damage (negated by successes). Against Michonne's 3 orange (assuming cover), she's taking and average of 4 damage a round, from anywhere on the board. she'll last 2 rounds tops against that. If Rick gets really lucky, he can dish out a crazy 12 damage and no one is surviving that.
I want to emphasize that I love the game and can't wait to have it and play it but the game isn't finished yet and Mantic is going to need to burn quite a bit of time balancing this thing out. I personally don't think any gun should be without an orange or white die so that there is always a chance it can run out of ammo. A native blue die only on a gun is ripe for abuse.

I think that this may be the kind of feedback that they are looking for... maybe we can sort out an organized document from this community, for rule changes in the next month or so, that we can submit to them for recommendations?

Yeah, I assume zombiespider is providing feedback to the design team and I've been doing it through Mantic's horrible forum but maybe a thread on playtesting feedback would be useful. Sorry to hijack this thread on the rules as it should be focused on builds.
To get back to that end, Michonne + Tyreese is great but I'm just realizing it's too specialized in melee. I think the true powerhouse duo is Richonne: Michonne in riot gear and katana and Rick in "God mode" with a Safari Rifle. Rick picks off the opponent's survivors while Michonne runs walker interference and loot collection. That sounds terrifying.

I have not tried that combo yet, I'll have to give it a go, heheh. Not giving feedback on Mantic's forums since my xbox truly hates then and crashes the explorer every time I go to post so a community feedback thread where we can collate things and then have a large post go up on the official thread would be a excellent idea

what would be the cost of a Rick/Abraham/Morgan team?

We haven't seen playtest versions of Abraham or Morgan so hard to say. I would assume Abraham to be on the high side, 40-50 points, as he'll likely have good dice options for each attribute. Morgan is likely lower (25-30 pts) so that will likely leave you with 50-70 points to either grab a 4th survivor or stock up with equipment.
